QUALITY KILN DRIED LOGS DELIVERED ACROSS Manchester
Wood should be well seasoned before it is burnt. This means taking the moisture content down to 20% from typical values of 45-30%. The process begins when the tree is felled for burning (this should be done in deep winter as the tree is dormant and the sap has not yet risen).
ALL of our timber comes from a sustainable source, usually were woodlands need thinning to make trees stronger or for space to allow the trees to grow bigger.
Once the timber arrives with us, it is stacked outside in linear windrows, air drying for the spring and summer to season it naturally ( some of our wood has been drying like this for over 2 years!) The sides of the stack are best left open so that the wind can get to the wood to dry it out.
The wood is then processed and placed in our large kilns which are heated using burner wood - we have very little / no waste by doing this as anything that isn’t quite up to final user standard is used as burner wood.
The wood is exposed to heated air circulation at around 60-70°C in 7-10 hour cycles. We continuously moisture test our logs and repeat the process until we are 100% happy with the quality. This drying method reduces the moisture content in the logs right down in order for them to burn hotter with a higher longer longer-lasting energy.
Once the logs have passed our quality control, the final stage is for us to bag them up and deliver them to you ready to burn… with one last moisture test done just before the driver leaves the yard for good measure! If it isn't dry…don’t buy.
